Frequently Asked Questions
How do IndoorPet Fence systems work?
Indoor Pet Fence systems emit a radio signal that is detected by the receiver collar worn by your pet—the same way the outdoor Hidden Fence systems work. As your pet approaches the signal field (initially marked with a series of flags to help your pet identify the area), the receiver collar begins to emit an audible (or vibration) warning beep. If your pet goes beyond the warning zone, the warning is quickly followed by a mild ‘correction’—an unpleasant, but safe, sensation from the receiver collar. With proper training, your pet will quickly learn to stay away from areas that he associates with the warning.
What is the light on the transmitter?
The status light on the transmitter lets you know if the transmitter is turned on.
On the MB-1 (and IB-100), the status light also lets you know the status of the transmitter battery. If the light is red, the battery needs to be charged. See Owner’s Guide for additional information.
Note: The green light may be steady green or blinking green. This depends on the frequency setting of the transmitter.
How do I increase and decrease the signal range (the distance the signal radiates from the transmitter or the boundary wire) to make the “off-limits” avoidance zone area larger or smaller?
On the back of the transmitter, there is a signal range knob.
- Turn the knob toward the ‘+’ to increase the signal range. This increases the size of the signal field.
- Turn the knob toward the ‘-’ to decrease the signal range. This decreases the size of the signal field.
The MB-1 has a rechargeable battery. How long does the battery stay charged?
Battery life is determined, in part, by the rate and the range settings you select. The rate setting determines how frequently the signal is transmitted (fast, medium or slow.) The range setting is the distance the signal radiates from the transmitter. See the Owner’s Guide for additional information.
When set at maximum range, the life of the battery charge is approximately:
- 4 days in ‘Fast’
- 7 days in ‘Medium’ /
- 30 days in ‘Slow’
Decreasing the range setting will increase the average battery life between charges.
How large can I make the “off-limits” area?
Wireless Transmitters:
- The MB-2 can be adjusted up to a maximum of 13 feet in diameter (6.5 feet in all directions from the transmitter.)
The MB-1 can be adjusted up to a maximum of 8 feet in diameter (4 feet in all directions from the transmitter.)
With Wire:
When using the boundary wire, you can customize the size of your avoidance zone(s) based on:
- The length of the wire
- The signal range
- The distance between the separated wires (separated = signal is transmitted; twisted together = no signal).
See the Owner’s Guide for additional information.
- The MB-2 can be adjusted up to a maximum of 13 feet in diameter (6.5 feet in all directions from the transmitter.)
Do I need separate collars for inside and outside?
Use can the same collar for the DogWatch outdoor fence and the DogWatch indoor products.
